Founded in 1888, Woman's Missionary Union is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention that seeks to equip adults, youth, children and preschoolers with missions education to become involved in the mission of God. Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., WMU is a nonprofit organization that offers an array of missions resources including conferences, ministry ideas and models, volunteer opportunities, curriculum for age-level organizations, leadership training, books and more.
Missions are the very heart of WMU (Women's Missionary Union). The month of December is the time we place our emphasis on International Missions. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is named for a selfless woman who could have stayed in America and lived the pampered life of a well off family. She, however, chose to give her life for the people of China. She worked many hard hours to win the trust and respect of the Chinese people.
Lottie Moon died of starvation on Christmas Eve, 1912, after serving in China for 39 years. She gave her very life so many could come to know Christ.
You may not be called to a foreign mission field but you can be a part of what Lottie Moon stared. Pray That God, Father of us all, will lay upon your heart how much you should write a check for to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering this year. Then sit down and joyfully write that check, giving god the glory for all He has done in your life and how this money will help missionaries in different parts of the world reach the lost for Jesus.
Each December, Southern Baptist churches collect the offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Board's (IMB) overseas budget, supporting more than 5,400 missionaries.
Our Missouri Baptist Convention has set a statewide goal of $4 million.
The Southern Baptist goal is $150 Million.
