Suggested Date: Sunday, November 1, 2009
Your MBC Sunday School Team is excited to share with you the 2009 version of – “Show-Me Sunday” – our second annual State-Wide Sunday School High Attendance Day emphasis in Missouri. The emphasis is not intended to produce large numbers that will be reported to one central location, but rather a way to help churches emphasize the importance of Sunday School and each member taking responsibility to invite friends, relatives, associates and neighbors to come be a part of Bible Study.
Many of you sent in suggestions to make the emphasis more usable this year in our churches. Some wondered why we did not make the suggested date the first day of November instead of the more traditional last day of October. To be honest, we had forgotten that “Time Change Sunday” (the good one, where people who have forgotten to set their clocks back an hour show up for worship and instead get there just in time for Sunday School!) had been moved from the last Sunday of October to the first Sunday in November. So this year that will be our “suggested date”. Notice we put suggested date in quotations. Because others of you said you wanted your church to participate in a High Attendance Campaign, but you wanted to do it at another time than the date we had printed on the poster. So this year we are suggesting that November 1st be the day that churches promote Show-Me Sunday, but we have left a blank space for the church to write in both the date and attendance goal that they select.
The Show-Me Sunday High Attendance Day is a choice opportunity for your church to give a fresh expression of compassion for members and prospects of all ages who need Bible study. Your emphasis can be a one day event on Show-me Sunday or it could be a four or five week long campaign and include some or all of these events:
- emphasizing a special age group each week;
- setting a weekly Sunday School attendance goal;
- setting an enrollment goal for new Sunday School members;
- planning prospect discovery events;
- conducting weekly Show-Me visitation nights; and
- conducting a Show-Me high attendance/evangelism day to conclude the emphasis.
A packet with full color posters, class poster, and commitment card original has been sent to every MBC church.
